The lifetime of your Nantucket Lightship Basket is up to you.

To care for your wooden or ivory top, you should wax it with any kind of Simonize wax, Butcher's Bowling Alley Wax is recommended. This should be done at lease once a month, being careful not to wax woven areas. This treatment will help your top's finish to last longer and if you have an ivory top, it will help to keep the ivory from cracking.

If you do have an ivory top, plaque or carving, it should not be exposed to the direct sun or heat when the basket is not in use.

The hinges on yur basket are made with leather and wrapped with rattan. To help keep them from dry-rotting, the hinges should be oiled with a small drop of a good leather oil, such as Lexoil, twice a year. This treatment should be applied even when your basket is not in use.

If your Nantucket Lightship Basket needs to be cleaned or repaired, it should be sent back to our studio.
